Final Fantasy VIII: Fresh Coat of Paint

With long running video game series, the first one you play is always the best. Such is the case with many games I have played through the years. There’s Street Fighter 2, Dragon Quest VII, Elder Scrolls 3, NHL 2001, etc.

But today I’m blogging about my first Final Fantasy game, which is Final Fantasy VIII. FFVIII will always be my favorite Final Fantasy game, it’s better than VII in my opinion. When Square Enix was re-releasing all the other FF games, it made me a little sad that VIII was excluded, even if they alleged to losing the source code. I never thought we would be getting a remaster of the game, until E3 this year.

There was shock, surprise and finally the early September release date. I didn’t expect the game to release so soon (I was expecting a Christmas release because Square Enix likes to drag those release dates out with occasional delays).

Diablo 3: Handhell(d) fun

I recently got into Diablo 3 on the Switch. I have enjoyed every minute of it and the game plays great on the system (though you probably know that). I’ve known about the game since the first Diablo came out on the Playstation many many years ago, but I never did play it. The gameplay seemed too chaotic and difficult to me.

But I know the plot of Diablo 2 and 3 after watching a friend play both games in their entirety.

So here we are, I’ve put in 30 hours, completed the campaign for my first character (Monk) and now I’m on my second character (Demon Hunter). I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon and I like the Demon Hunter class better than the Monk class. But that’s enough talk about classes, let’s talk about the story.

VA11-HALL-A: Taste the Future

The older I get the more I’m gravitating more towards text based games. It all started when I got my PS-Vita. I played a few of those types, most notably Sweet Fuse and Steins;Gate. Another game I played, and fell in love with was a little indie game called VA-11 HALL-A: A Cyberpunk Bartender Action.

The plot follows Julianne Stingray (or Jill for short), our bartender, and the gameplay part has her making drinks for patrons. Each patron has their own unique story and most will return during the 19 day cycle. Some patrons will be direct with their orders, some have a regular drink and others want a certain flavor. It’s fun mixing drinks and with some drinks, you can choose how much alcohol (if any) you want to put in.

As suggested from the start of the game…

This game is best played getting comfortable. Grab some drinks, some snacks, and enjoy!

Late to the Party: The Lego Tragedy

I’m back with another installment of Late to the Party. Since the last time I posted, I have moved apartments and also started a new position where I work, so a lot has been happening.

But now that work has settled down and I got into the swing of the work transition, I finally found some time to catch up on some video games. I’ve been slowly playing the Switch more, and also playing less of the PS4 and PS Vita.

Late to the Party: A Video-game Blog

Welcome to my blog where I talk about video games I’ve played during this week. The title is kinda self explanatory, I tend to play games a lot later after they’ve released (mostly because they’re cheaper after being out for months). The theme of this episode is Tax Return, because I treated myself to some video games.

OctoThoughts: An Octopath Story

I’m a little less than 6 months late to the Octopath party but I finally started playing the game and it’s everything I wanted it to be. Simple on the story with a crap ton of characters with their “micro-campaigns.” I did download the demo for the Switch, with its 3 hour play time but got distracted by other things at the time so I never got around to playing it. 5 months later, Christmas came and I was finally able to carve some time out to start on the story.
